Hadith 331:6
Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us, he said: Jarir—meaning Ibn Hazim—narrated to us, from Ali ibn Zayd ibn Jud'an, who said: Abu Bakr ibn Anas ibn Malik narrated to me, he said: My father arrived from Ash-Sham as a delegate, and I was with him. We met Mahmud ibn al-Rabi', and my father narrated a hadith to him from 'Itban ibn Malik. My father said: "O my son, memorize this hadith, for it is among the treasures of hadith." When we returned—meaning we went back to Medina—we asked about him, and he was alive, an elderly blind man. He said: We asked him about the hadith, and he said: "Yes, my eyesight went during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, my eyesight has gone, and I cannot pray behind you. If you would designate a place in my house as a mosque, I would pray in it and take it as a place of prayer.' He said: 'Yes, I will come to you tomorrow morning.'" He said: When he prayed the next day, he turned toward him, and he stood up until he came to him and said: "O 'Itban, where do you like for me to designate for you?" He described a place to him, so he designated it for him, and he prayed in it. Then he was detained or sat down. The Ansar who were around us heard of it, so they came until the house was filled with us. They mentioned the hypocrites and what they were encountering from their harm and evil, until they brought their matter to a man among them called Malik ibn al-Dukhshum. They said: "What about his state, and what about his state?" while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was silent. When they persisted, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Does he not testify that there is no god but Allah?" When it reached the third time, they said: "He indeed says it." He said: "By the One who sent me with the truth, if he says it truthfully from his heart, the Fire will never consume him." He said: They were never happy with anything as they were happy with what he said.
