Hadith of ‘Iyad ibn Himar al-Mujashi‘i (RA)
Hadith 489:4
Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us, Qatadah narrated to us, from Mutarrif, from 'Iyad ibn Himar: That the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, delivered a sermon one day, and he said in his sermon: "Indeed, my Lord commanded me to teach you what you were ignorant of, from what He taught me this day: Every wealth I have bestowed upon My servants is lawful. And I created My servants all as monotheists (hunafa'), but the devils came to them and led them astray from their religion, and forbade for them what I had made lawful for them, and commanded them to associate with Me that for which I have sent down no authority. Then Allah looked at the people of the earth and detested them, their non-Arabs and their Arabs, except for remnants of the People of the Scripture. And He said: 'I have only sent you to test you and to be tested by you, and I have sent down to you a Book that water cannot wash away; you read it while sleeping and while awake.' Then Allah commanded me to burn [the tribe of] Quraish. I said: 'O Lord, they will crush my head and leave it like bread.' He said: 'Drive them out as they drove you out, and raid them, We will raid with you, and spend on them, We will spend on you, and send an army, We will send five times its like, and fight with those who obey you against those who disobey you.' And the people of Paradise are three: A ruler who is just, charitable, and guided; a man who is merciful and soft-hearted toward every relative and Muslim; and a man who is poor [and chaste]. And the people of the Fire are five: The weak one who has no restraint, those who are among you as followers—or dependents, Yahya was uncertain—who seek neither family nor wealth; the traitor who, if a greed is hidden from him—even if it is small—he betrays it; and a man who does not wake up or go to sleep without trying to deceive you regarding your family and your wealth." And he mentioned stinginess and lying, and the foul-mouthed, obscene person.
