Hadith of Jabir ibn Samurah al-Suwa'i (RA)

Hadith 907:187

Abu Kamil and Bahz narrated to us, they said: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Simak. Abu Kamil said: Simak informed us, from Jabir ibn Samurah: That a man was in al-Harrah with his family and his children. A man said to him: "I have lost a she-camel of mine, so if you find it, hold onto it." He found it, and it became sick. His wife said to him: "Slaughter it." He refused, and it died. His wife said to him: "Cut it up so that we may eat of its meat and its fat." He said: "Until I consult the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." So he came to him and informed him. He said to him: "Do you have wealth that suffices you?" He said: "No." He said: "Then eat it." He said: Then its owner came after that and said: "Would that you had slaughtered it!" He said: "I was shy of you."
