Abu Salamah al-Khuza'i narrated to us, Sharik informed us, from Simak, from Jabir ibn Samurah, who said: "We used to sit with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and they would recite poetry to one another and discuss things from the affairs of the Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic era), while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remained silent, and sometimes he would smile." Or he said: "We used to recite poetry to one another and mention things from the affairs of the Jahiliyyah, and sometimes he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would smile."
