Hadith of Jabir ibn Samurah al-Suwa'i (RA)

Hadith 907:97

Abdullah narrated to us, Al-Hasan ibn Yahya narrated to me, Abd al-Samad narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, Simak narrated from Jabir ibn Samurah, that a man was with his father at al-Harrah. A man said to him: "A she-camel of mine has gone missing, so if you find it, hold it." The man found it, but its owner did not come until it became ill. His wife said to him: "Slaughter it so we may eat it," but he did not do so until it died. His wife said: "Skin it so we may dry its meat and fat." He said: "Not until I ask the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him." So he asked him, and he said: "Do you have anything that makes you independent of it?" He said: "No." He said: "Eat it." Its owner came after that and said: "Why did you not slaughter it?" He said: "I was shy of you."
