Hadith of Jabir ibn Sulaym al-Hujaymi (RA)
Hadith 851:4
'Affan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, Yunus narrated to us, 'Ubaydah al-Hujaymi narrated to us, from Abu Tamimah al-Hujaymi, from Jabir ibn Sulaym, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while he was sitting with his knees drawn up to his chest, wrapped in a garment of his, and its fringe had fallen onto his feet. I said, "Which of you is Muhammad?" or "the Messenger of Allah?" He gestured with his hand toward himself. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am from the people of the desert, and there is roughness in them, so advise me." He said: "Do not belittle anything of good, even if it is that you meet your brother with a cheerful face, or that you pour from your bucket into the vessel of one seeking water. And if a man insults you for something he knows about you, do not insult him for something you know about him; for its reward will be yours, and its burden will be upon him. And beware of letting the lower garment hang low (isbal), for letting the lower garment hang low is from arrogance, and Allah does not love arrogance. And do not insult anyone." He said: "So I have not insulted anyone after that, neither a sheep nor a camel."
