Hadith 429:11
Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq informed us, from al-Zuhri, from Sa’id ibn al-Musayyib, from Jubayr ibn Mut’im, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) divided the share of the near kin from Khaybar between the Banu Hashim and the Banu al-Muttalib, I and Uthman ibn Affan came and I said: "O Messenger of Allah, these are the Banu Hashim; their merit is not denied due to the place—which Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has described you with—that they hold with you. But what do you think of our brothers from the Banu al-Muttalib? You gave to them and left us, yet we and they are in the same position with you." He said: "They have not parted from me in Jahiliyyah nor in Islam, and the Banu Hashim and the Banu al-Muttalib are but one thing." He said: Then he interlaced his fingers.
حدثنا يزيد بن هارون، قال: أخبرنا محمد بن إسحاق، عن الزهري، عن سعيد بن المسيب، عن جبير بن مطعم، قال: لما قسم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم سهم القربى من خيبر بين بني هاشم وبني المطلب جئت أنا وعثمان بن عفان، فقلت: يا رسول الله، هؤلاء بنو هاشم لا ينكر فضلهم لمكانك - الذي وصفك الله عز وجل به - منهم، أرأيت إخواننا من بني المطلب أعطيتهم وتركتنا، وإنما نحن وهم منك بمنزلة واحدة. قال: " إنهم لم يفارقوني في جاهلية ولا إسلام، وإنما هم بنو هاشم وبنو المطلب شيئا واحدا " قال: ثم شبك بين أصابعه
