Hadith of Kharijah ibn al-Salt from his uncle

Hadith 942:1

Yahya ibn Sa’id narrated to us, from Zakariyya, and Waki’ narrated to us, Zakariyya said—Yahya said in his narration: ‘Amir narrated to me, from Kharijah ibn al-Salt—Yahya al-Tamimi said: From his paternal uncle, that he came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, then he turned back returning from him. He passed by a people who had with them a madman bound in iron. His family said: "We have been told that this companion of yours has come with good, so does he have anything with which to treat him?" He said: So I performed *ruqyah* (incantation) upon him with the Opening of the Book (*Fatihat al-Kitab*). Waki’ said: For three days, twice every day, and he was cured. So they gave me one hundred sheep. I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and informed him. He said: "Take them, for by my life, whoever consumes by a false *ruqyah*, you have consumed by a true *ruqyah*."
