Musnad Ahmad 833:4

Waki’ narrated to us, Aban bin Yazid narrated to us, from Budail bin Maysarah al-‘Uqayli, from a man among them whose kunya was Abu ‘Atiyyah, who said: Malik bin al-Huwayrith used to come to our place of prayer and speak with us. He said: The time for prayer arrived one day, so we said: "Step forward [to lead the prayer]." He said: "No, let one of you step forward, until I tell you why I do not step forward. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: 'Whoever visits a people, let him not lead them in prayer, but let a man from among them lead them.'"
