Musnad Ahmad 553:1

Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, he said: Hisham al-Dastawa'i narrated to us, he said: Qatadah narrated to us, from Anas ibn Malik, from Malik ibn Sa'sa'ah, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "While I was at the House, between sleeping and waking, one of the three came between the two men. I was brought a basin of gold filled with wisdom and faith. Then [my body] was split from the throat to the lower abdomen, and the heart was washed with Zamzam water, then it was filled with wisdom and faith. Then I was brought a beast smaller than a mule and larger than a donkey. Then I set off with Jibril. We came to the lowest heaven. It was said: 'Who is this?' He said: 'Jibril.' It was said: 'And who is with you?' He said: 'Muhammad.' It was said: 'Has he been sent for?' He said: 'Yes.' It was said: 'Welcome to him, and what a blessed arrival he has arrived.' I came to Adam and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you, O son and Prophet.' Then we came to the second heaven. It was said: 'Who is this?' It was said: 'Jibril.' It was said: 'And who is with you?' He said: 'Muhammad.' It was the same as before. I came to Yahya and 'Isa, and I greeted them, and they said: 'Welcome to you, O brother and Prophet.' Then we came to the third heaven, and it was the same. I came to Yusuf and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you, O brother and Prophet.' Then we came to the fourth heaven, and it was the same. I came to Idris and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you, O brother and Prophet.' Then we came to the fifth heaven, and it was the same. I came to Harun and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you, O brother and Prophet.' Then we came to the sixth heaven, and it was the same. Then I came to Musa and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you, O brother and Prophet.' When I passed him, he wept. It was said: 'What makes you weep?' He said: 'O Lord, this young man whom You sent after me, more of his nation will enter Paradise and they will be better than those who enter from my nation.' Then we came to the seventh heaven, and it was the same. I came to Ibrahim and greeted him, and he said: 'Welcome to you, O son and Prophet.' He said: 'Then the Much-Frequented House (al-Bayt al-Ma'mur) was raised for me.' I asked Jibril, and he said: 'This is the Much-Frequented House; seventy thousand angels pray in it every day. When they leave it, they do not return to it, and that is the last of their turn.' He said: 'Then the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary (Sidrat al-Muntaha) was raised for me. Its fruits were like the jars of Hajar, and its leaves were like the ears of elephants. At its base were four rivers: two hidden and two manifest.' I asked Jibril, and he said: 'As for the hidden ones, they are in Paradise, and as for the manifest ones, they are the Euphrates and the Nile.' He said: 'Then fifty prayers were enjoined upon me. I came to Musa, and he said: "What have you done?" I said: "Fifty prayers were enjoined upon me." He said: "I know people better than you. I treated the Children of Israel with the strictest treatment, and your nation will not be able to bear that. Go back to your Lord and ask Him to lighten it for you." He said: 'So I returned to my Lord and asked Him to lighten it for me, so He made it forty. Then I returned to Musa and came to him, and he said: "What have you done?" I said: "He made it forty." He said to me the same as his first statement. So I returned to my Lord, and He made it thirty. I came to Musa and informed him, and he said to me the same as his first statement. So I returned to my Lord, and He made it twenty, then ten, then five.' I came to Musa and informed him, and he said to me the same as his first statement. I said: 'I feel shy before my Lord to return to Him again.' Then it was called out: 'I have finalized My obligation and lightened it for My servants, and I reward the good deed with ten times its like.'"
