Hadith of a Man

Hadith 867:1

'Affan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib informed us, from Bilal ibn Baqtar, that a man from the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was appointed as a governor over Sijistan. A man from the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) met him and said: "Do you remember the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when he appointed a man over an army, and there was a fire near him that had been kindled? He said to a man among his companions: 'Stand up and jump into it.' So he stood up and jumped into it. That reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he said: 'If he had fallen into it, he would have entered the Fire. Indeed, there is no obedience in disobedience to Allah.' And I only intended to remind you of this." Hammad also said: "Stand up and jump into it," and he refused, so he insisted upon him. And Hammad also said: "There is no obedience in disobedience to Allah." He said: "Yes."
