Hadith of a Man

Hadith 979:1

Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Abu al-Malih narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Khalid, from his father, from his grandfather—and his grandfather had companionship [with the Prophet]—that he went out to visit a man among his brothers, and news reached him of his illness. He said: So he entered upon him and said: "I have come to you as a visitor, a sick-visitor, and a bearer of glad tidings." He said: "How did you combine all of this?" He said: "I went out intending to visit you, then news of your illness reached me, so it became a sick-visit. And I bring you glad tidings of something I heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, who said: 'If a station has been previously decreed by Allah for a servant which he cannot reach by his deeds, Allah will afflict him in his body, or his wealth, or his children, then He will grant him patience until He causes him to reach the station that was previously decreed for him from Him.'"
