Hadith 1040:1
Yahya ibn Sa’id narrated to us, Jarir narrated to us, from Mansur, from Mujahid, who said: I and Yahya ibn Ja’dah entered upon a man from the Ansar, one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He said: They mentioned in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, a freedwoman of the Banu ‘Abd al-Muttalib, and said: "She stands [in prayer] at night and fasts during the day." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "As for me, I sleep and I pray, and I fast and I break my fast. So whoever follows my example is of me, and whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not of me." "Indeed, for every action there is an intensity, and then there is a period of slackening. So whoever’s slackening leads to an innovation, he has gone astray, and whoever’s slackening leads to a Sunnah, he has been guided."
حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد، حدثنا جرير، عن منصور، عن مجاهد قال: دخلت أنا ويحيى بن جعدة على رجل من الأنصار من أصحاب الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: ذكروا عند رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم مولاة لبني عبد المطلب فقال: إنها تقوم الليل وتصوم النهار، قال: فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " لكني أنا أنام وأصلي، وأصوم وأفطر، فمن اقتدى بي فهو مني، ومن رغب عن سنتي فليس مني، إن لكل عمل شرة ثم فترة، فمن كانت فترته إلى بدعة فقد ضل، ومن كانت فترته إلى سنة فقد اهتدى "
