Musnad Ahmad 194:3

'Affan narrated to us, he said: Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, he said: 'Asim ibn Kulayb narrated to us, he said: Abu al-Juwayriyah narrated to me, he said: I found a red jar containing dinars during the governorship of Mu'awiyah in the land of the Romans. He said: And over us was a man from the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, from Banu Sulaym, who was called Ma'n ibn Yazid. He said: So I brought it to him to divide it among the Muslims, and he gave me the same as he gave any man among them. Then he said: "Had I not heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and seen him do it—I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: 'There is no *nafal* (extra spoils) except after the fifth'—I would have given you [more]." He said: Then he took and offered me from his own share, but I refused him. I said: "I am not more entitled to it than you." *** Hisham ibn 'Abd al-Malik and Surayj ibn al-Nu'man narrated to us, they said: Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, from Abu al-Juwayriyah, from Ma'n ibn Yazid, he said: "I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him—I, my father, and my grandfather—and I disputed before him, so he granted me victory, and he proposed on my behalf, so he married me off." *** Hisham ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, from Abu al-Juwayriyah, from Ma'n ibn Yazid al-Sulami, he said: I heard him say: "I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him—I, my father, and my grandfather—and I disputed before him, so he granted me victory, and he proposed on my behalf, so he married me off."
