Hadith 813:1
Hajjaj narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to me, from Qatadah, from 'Abd al-Rahman Abu al-Minhal ibn Salamah al-Khuza'i, from his paternal uncle, that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to [the tribe of] Aslam: "Fast today." They said: "We have already eaten." He said: "Fast the remainder of your day," meaning the day of 'Ashura.
حدثنا حجاج، حدثني شعبة، عن قتادة، عن عبد الرحمن أبي المنهال بن سلمة الخزاعي، عن عمه، أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال لأسلم: " صوموا اليوم "، فقالوا: إنا قد أكلنا، قال: " صوموا بقية يومكم " يعني يوم عاشوراء "
