Hadith of a man from Muzaynah

حديث رجل من مزينة

Hadith 474:1

Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Hamid ibn Ja’far narrated to us, from his father, from a man from Muzaynah, that his mother said to him: "Will you not go and ask the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, just as the people ask him?" So I went to ask him, and I found him standing and delivering a sermon, and he was saying: "Whoever seeks chastity, Allah will make him chaste; whoever seeks self-sufficiency, Allah will make him self-sufficient; and whoever asks of the people while he possesses the equivalent of five *uqiyahs*, he has asked persistently." I said to myself regarding my she-camel: "It is better than five *uqiyahs*," and regarding my servant, he had another she-camel that was better than five *uqiyahs*. So I returned and did not ask him.
