Hadith 806:11
'Abd al-Samad and 'Affan narrated to us, they said: al-Muthanna ibn 'Awf narrated to us, Abu 'Abd Allah al-Jasri narrated to us, he said: I asked Ma'qil ibn Yasar about drink, and he said: "We were in Medina, and it had many dates, so the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, forbade us from *al-fadikh* (a drink made from unripe dates)." And a man came to him and asked him about an old, elderly mother of his: "Should I give her *nabidh* (date-water) to drink, for she does not eat food?" So Ma'qil forbade him.
حدثنا عبد الصمد، وعفان، قالا: حدثنا المثنى بن عوف، حدثنا أبو عبد الله الجسري، قال: سألت معقل بن يسار عن الشراب، فقال: " كنا بالمدينة وكانت كثيرة التمر، فحرم علينا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم الفضيخ "، وأتاه رجل فسأله عن أم له عجوز كبيرة، أيسقيها النبيذ، فإنها لا تأكل الطعام؟ " فنهاه معقل "
