Yahya ibn Ghaylan narrated to us, he said: Rishdin ibn Sa'd narrated to us, he said: 'Amr ibn al-Harith narrated to me, that Kathir ibn Farqad narrated to him, that 'Abdullah ibn Malik ibn Hudhafah narrated to him, from his mother, al-'Aliyah bint Sami'—or Subay', the doubt is from 'Abdullah—that Maymunah, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, passed by some men of Quraysh who were dragging a sheep of theirs that was the size of a donkey. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to them: "If only you had taken its hide." They said: "It is dead (carrion)." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Water and qarz (acacia pods used for tanning) purify it."
