Hadith 961:146
Surayj narrated to us, Hammad—meaning Ibn Salamah—narrated to us, from ‘Asim ibn Bahdalah, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from Mu’adh, that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "I shall inform you of the gates of goodness: Fasting is a shield, and charity extinguishes sin just as water extinguishes fire, and the standing of the servant in the night." Then he recited: "Their sides forsake their beds" [As-Sajdah: 16] until the end of the verse.
حدثنا سريج، حدثنا حماد يعني ابن سلمة، عن عاصم بن بهدلة، عن شهر بن حوشب، عن معاذ، أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: " سأنبئك بأبواب من الخير: 10 الصوم جنة، والصدقة تطفئ الخطيئة كما يطفئ الماء النار، وقيام العبد من الليل ". ثم قرأ {تتجافى جنوبهم عن المضاجع} [السجدة: 16] إلى آخر الآية "
