Hadith of Muadh ibn Jabal (RA)

Hadith 961:57

Haywah ibn Shurayh and Yazid ibn Abd Rabbih narrated to us, they said: Baqiyyah—who is Ibn al-Walid—narrated to us, he said: Buhayr ibn Sa’d narrated to me, from Khalid ibn Ma’dan, from Abu Bahriyyah, from Mu’adh ibn Jabal, from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) that he said: "Military expeditions are two types: As for the one who seeks the Face of Allah, obeys the leader, spends from his precious wealth, treats his companion kindly, and avoids corruption, then his sleep and his wakefulness are entirely a reward. And as for the one who goes on an expedition out of pride, showing off, and for reputation, disobeys the leader, and causes corruption in the land, then he does not return with anything that suffices him."
