Hadith 961:70
Isma'il ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, al-Jariri narrated to us, from Abu al-Ward, from al-Lajlaj, Mu'adh narrated to me, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came upon a man while he was praying, and he was saying in his supplication: "O Allah, I ask You for patience." He said: "You have asked for tribulation, so ask Allah for well-being." He said: And he came upon a man while he was saying: "O Allah, I ask You for the completion of Your favor." He said: "O son of Adam, do you know what the completion of favor is?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah, it is a supplication I made, hoping for good through it." He said: "For the completion of favor is success in escaping the Fire and entering Paradise." And he came upon a man while he was saying: "O Possessor of Majesty and Honor." He said: "It has been answered for you, so ask."
حدثنا إسماعيل بن إبراهيم، حدثنا الجريري، عن أبي الورد، عن اللجلاج، حدثني معاذ، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أتى على رجل وهو يصلي وهو يقول في دعائه: اللهم إني أسألك الصبر. قال: " سألت البلاء فسل الله العافية ". قال: وأتى على رجل وهو يقول: اللهم إني أسألك تمام نعمتك. فقال: " ابن آدم هل تدري ما تمام النعمة؟ " قال: يا رسول الله، دعوة دعوت بها أرجو بها الخير. قال: " فإن تمام النعمة فوز من النار ودخول الجنة ". وأتى على رجل وهو يقول: يا ذا الجلال والإكرام. فقال: " قد استجيب لك فسل "
