Hadith 961:78
Waki’ narrated to us, Ja’far ibn Burqan narrated to us, from Habib ibn Abi Marzuq, from ‘Ata’ ibn Abi Rabah, from Abu Muslim al-Khawlani, who said: I came to the mosque of the people of Damascus, and there was a circle in it containing elderly men from the companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Among them was a young man with kohl-lined eyes and sparkling teeth. Whenever they differed over something, they referred it to the youth, a young man. I said to someone sitting next to me: "Who is this?" He said: "This is Mu’adh ibn Jabal." I came in the evening, but they were not present. I went early the next day, but they did not come. I went in the evening, and there I was with the young man praying by a pillar. I performed two rak’ahs, then I moved toward him. He finished his prayer with the taslim, so I drew near to him and said: "I truly love you for the sake of Allah." He pulled me toward him and said: "What did you say?" I said: "I truly love you for the sake of Allah." He said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say: 'Those who love one another for the sake of Allah will be upon pulpits of light in the shade of the Throne, on a day when there is no shade but His shade.'" I went out until I met ‘Ubadah ibn al-Samit and mentioned to him the hadith of Mu’adh ibn Jabal. He said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, narrating from his Lord, who says: 'My love is guaranteed for those who love one another for My sake, and My love is guaranteed for those who spend on one another for My sake, and My love is guaranteed for those who visit one another for My sake. And those who love one another for the sake of Allah will be upon pulpits of light in the shade of the Throne, on a day when there is no shade but His shade.'"
