Hadith of Muadh ibn Jabal (RA)

Hadith 961:96

Ubaydah ibn Humayd narrated to us, Sulayman al-A’mash narrated to me, from Raja’ al-Ansari, from Abdullah ibn Shaddad, from Mu’adh ibn Jabal, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, seeking him. It was said to me: "He went out earlier." He said: I did not pass by anyone except that they said: "He passed by earlier," until I passed by and found him standing, praying. He said: So I came until I stood behind him. He said: He prolonged the prayer. When he finished the prayer, I said: "O Messenger of Allah, you have prayed a long prayer." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Indeed, I prayed a prayer of hope and fear. I asked Allah for three things; He granted me two and withheld one from me. I asked Him that He not destroy my nation by drowning, and He granted it to me. I asked Him that He not let an enemy from outside them prevail over them, and He granted it to me. And I asked Him that He not cause them to fight among themselves, but He refused it to me."
