Musnad Ahmad 435:2

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, from ‘Amr ibn Murrah, from Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib, who said: Mu‘awiyah came to al-Madinah and delivered a sermon to us. He brought out a bundle of hair and said: "I did not think that anyone would do this except the Jews. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, called it—" Muhammad [ibn Ja‘far] was uncertain—"he named it: the *zur* (falsehood) or the *zir* (the false one)."
