Hadith 629:5
Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu Balj, who said: I said to Muhammad ibn Hatib: "I have married two women, and no tambourine was beaten for me." He said: "You have done a bad thing. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'The distinction between what is lawful and what is unlawful is the sound,' meaning the beating of the tambourine."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر، حدثنا شعبة، عن أبي بلج، قال: قلت لمحمد بن حاطب: إني قد تزوجت امرأتين، لم يضرب علي بدف، قال بئسما صنعت، قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " إن فصل ما بين الحلال والحرام الصوت يعني الضرب بالدف "
