Musnad Ahmad 589:4

Zayd ibn al-Hubab narrated to us, he said: Sahl ibn Abi al-Salt informed me, he said: I heard al-Hasan saying: Ali sent for Muhammad ibn Maslamah, and he was brought. He said: "What kept you back from this matter?" He said: "Your cousin—meaning the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace—handed me a sword and said: 'Fight with it as long as the enemy is fought, but when you see the people killing one another, take it to a rock and strike it against it. Then, stay in your house until a decisive death comes to you or a sinful hand.'" He said: "Let him go." *** Ishaq ibn Sulayman—meaning al-Razi—narrated to us, he said: I heard Malik ibn Anas, and Ishaq ibn Isa said: Malik informed me, from al-Zuhri, from Uthman ibn Khurashah—and Ishaq ibn Isa said: from Uthman ibn Ishaq ibn Khurashah. Abdullah said: Mus'ab al-Zubayri narrated to us, from Malik, the like of it. He said: Uthman ibn Ishaq ibn Khurashah, from the tribe of Banu Amir ibn Lu'ayy. No one attributed it to al-Zuhri except Malik, from Qabisah ibn Dhu'ayb, who said: The grandmother came to Abu Bakr asking him for her inheritance. He said: "I do not know of anything for you in the Book of Allah, nor do I know of anything for you in the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, until I ask the people." So he asked, and al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, assign her a sixth." He said: "Who testifies with you?" or "Who knows with you?" Muhammad ibn Maslamah stood up and said the like of that, so he executed it for her. Ishaq ibn Isa said: "Is there anyone with you other than him?"
