Musnad Ahmad 303:23

'Affan narrated to us, he said: Hammam narrated to us, Qatadah informed us, from Mutarrif ibn 'Abdullah, from his father, who said: I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) while he was reciting: "Competition diverts you, until you visit the graveyards." He said: He then said: "The son of Adam says: 'My wealth, my wealth.' And do you have, O son of Adam, of your wealth except what you ate and consumed, or what you wore and wore out, or what you gave in charity and sent forth?" And Qatadah used to say: Every charity that is not taken (given away) is nothing.
