Hadith 883:3
Isma'il narrated to us, from Khalid al-Hadhdha', from Abu al-Malih ibn Usamah, from Nubayshah al-Hudhali, who said: They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we used to slaughter the *'Atirah* (a sacrifice) during the Pre-Islamic period (Jahiliyyah), so what do you command us?" He said: "Slaughter for the sake of Allah in any month it may be, be dutiful to Allah, and feed (others)." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we used to offer the *Far'* (the firstborn of livestock) during the Pre-Islamic period, so what do you command us?" He said: "For every grazing livestock, there is a *Far'* that your livestock nourishes, until when it is strong enough to be ridden, you slaughter it and give its meat in charity." Khalid said: I think he said: "To the wayfarer, for that is better." He said: And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "We used to forbid you from eating their meat beyond three days so that it would suffice you, but Allah has brought about abundance, so eat, store, and trade. Verily, these days are days of eating, drinking, and the remembrance of Allah." Khalid said: I said to Abu Qilabah: "How much is the grazing livestock?" He said: "One hundred."
حدثنا إسماعيل، عن خالد الحذاء، عن أبي المليح بن أسامة، عن نبيشة الهذلي، قال: قالوا: يا رسول الله، إنا كنا نعتر عتيرة في الجاهلية فما تأمرنا؟ قال: " اذبحوا لله في أي شهر ما كان، وبروا الله وأطعموا "، قالوا: يا رسول الله، إنا كنا نفرع في الجاهلية فرعا، فما تأمرنا؟ قال: " في كل سائمة فرع تغذوه ماشيتك، حتى إذا استحمل ذبحته، فتصدقت بلحمه، قال خالد: أراه قال: على ابن السبيل، فإن ذلك هو خير " قال: وقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " إنا كنا نهيناكم أن تأكلوا لحومها فوق ثلاث، كي تسعكم، فقد جاء الله بالسعة، فكلوا، وادخروا، واتجروا، ألا وإن هذه الأيام أيام أكل وشرب، وذكر الله "، . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . قال خالد: قلت لأبي قلابة : كم السائمة؟ قال: " مائة "
