Narrated to us by Waki’, from Mis’ar, from Qays ibn Muslim, from Tariq ibn Shihab, who said: A man from the Jews came to ‘Umar and said: "O Commander of the Faithful, there is a verse in your Book that you recite; if it had been revealed to us, the assembly of the Jews, we would have taken that day as an ‘Eid (festival)." ‘Umar said: "Which verse?" He replied: "This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion." ‘Umar said: "I know the day it was revealed and the place where it was revealed. It was revealed to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) while he was standing at ‘Arafah on a Friday."
