Musnad Ahmad 847:4

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, ‘Awf narrated to us, from Hayyan, Qatan ibn Qabisah narrated to me, from his father, that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Indeed, *al-‘iyafah* (divination by birds), *al-tarq* (divination by lines), and *al-tiyarah* (superstitious omens) are from *al-jibt*." ‘Awf said: "*Al-‘iyafah* is the scaring of birds [to observe their flight for omens], and *al-tarq* is the lines that are drawn on the ground." And regarding *al-jibt*, al-Hasan said: "It is the devil."
