Hadith of Qabisah ibn Mukhariq (RA)
حديث قبيصة بن مخارق
Hadith 216:2
Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, he said: 'Awf narrated to me, he said: Hayyan narrated to me, he said: Qatan ibn Qabisah narrated to me, from his father Qabisah ibn Mukhariq, that he heard the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: "Al-'iyafah (divination by birds), at-tiyarah (augury by birds), and at-tarq (divination by lines in the sand) are from al-jibt (sorcery/idolatry)." He said: Al-'iyafah is from al-zajr (driving birds to see how they fly), and at-tarq is from al-khatt (drawing lines in the earth).
حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد، قال: حدثني عوف قال: حدثني حيان، قال: حدثني قطن بن قبيصة، عن أبيه قبيصة بن مخارق، أنه سمع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم " العيافة، والطيرة ، والطرق من الجبت " قال: العيافة من الزجر، والطرق من الخط
