Hadith 481:35
Hashim ibn al-Qasim narrated to us, Ayyub ibn Utbah narrated to us, ‘Ata’ Abu al-Najashi narrated to us, he said: Rafi‘ ibn Khadij narrated to us, he said: My uncle, Zuhayr ibn Rafi‘, met me and said: "O son of my brother, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) forbade us from a matter that was beneficial to us." I said: "What is it, uncle?" He said: "He forbade us from renting out our *muhaqil*—meaning our land at Sirar." I said: "O uncle, obedience to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) is more deserving." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "For what do you rent them out?" He said: "For the portion of the stream and for measures of barley." He said: "Do not do so; cultivate them yourselves, or let them be cultivated." He said: So we sold our properties at Sirar. ‘Abdullah said: "I asked my father about the hadiths of Rafi‘ ibn Khadij; sometimes he says: 'The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) forbade us,' and sometimes he says: 'From his two uncles.'" He said: "They are all authentic, and the most beloved of them to me is the hadith of Ayyub."
حدثنا هاشم بن القاسم، حدثنا أيوب بن عتبة، حدثنا عطاء أبو النجاشي، قال: حدثنا رافع بن خديج قال: لقيني عمي ظهير بن رافع، فقال: يا ابن أخي، قد نهانا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عن أمر كان بنا رافقا. قال: فقلت: ما هو يا عم؟ قال: نهانا أن نكري محاقلنا - يعني أرضنا التي بصرار -، قال: قلت: أي عم، طاعة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أحق. قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " بم تكروها؟ " قال: بالجدول الرب وبالأصواع من الشعير؟ قال: " فلا تفعلوا، ازرعوها، أو أزرعوها " قال: فبعنا أموالنا بصرار قال عبد الله: " وسألت أبي عن أحاديث رافع بن خديج، مرة يقول: نهانا النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، ومرة يقول: عن عميه " فقال: " كلها صحاح، وأحبها إلي حديث أيوب "
