Hadith 481:8
Waki' narrated to us, he said: Sufyan narrated to us, from his father, from 'Abayah ibn Rifa'ah, from his grandfather Rafi' ibn Khadij, who said: We were with the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, at Dhu al-Hulayfah in Tihamah, and we obtained sheep and camels. He said: The people hurried and boiled them in pots. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, came and ordered them, so they were overturned. Then he said: "Ten sheep are equivalent to one camel." He said: Then a camel ran away, and there were only a few horses among the people. A man shot it with an arrow and restrained it. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "These animals have wild instincts like the instincts of wild beasts, so whatever of them overcomes you, do to it like this." He said: Rafi' ibn Khadij said: We hope, or we fear, that we will meet the enemy tomorrow and we do not have knives. Shall we slaughter with reeds? He said: "Hasten or let flow what causes the blood to gush, and mention the name of Allah over it, then eat. Not the tooth or the nail. And I will tell you about that: as for the tooth, it is a bone; and as for the nail, it is the knife of the Abyssinians."
