Hadith 179:13
'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, he said: Sufyan informed us, from Mansur, from Mujahid, from Usayd ibn Zuhayr, the nephew of Rafi' ibn Khadij, from Rafi' ibn Khadij, who said: When one of us had no need for his land, he would give it [to someone else] for a third, a fourth, or a half [of the produce], stipulating the three water channels, the border area, and what the spring rains irrigate. Life at that time was difficult, and one would work on it with iron tools and whatever else Allah willed, and derive benefit from it. Then Rafi' ibn Khadij came to us and said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbids you from a matter that was beneficial to you, and obedience to Allah and obedience to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) is more beneficial for you. The Prophet (ﷺ) forbids you from *al-haql* (sharecropping), and says: 'Whoever has no need for his land, let him grant it to his brother or leave it.'" And he forbids you from *al-muzabanah*. *Al-muzabanah* is when a man has a large amount of palm trees, and a man comes to him and says: "I have taken it for such and such *wasaq* (loads) of dates."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق، قال: أخبرنا سفيان، عن منصور، عن مجاهد، عن أسيد بن ظهير ابن أخي رافع بن خديج، عن رافع بن خديج، قال : كان أحدنا إذا استغنى عن أرضه أعطاها بالثلث، والربع، والنصف، ويشترط ثلاث جداول، والقصارة، وما يسقي الربيع، وكان العيش إذ ذاك شديدا، وكان يعمل فيها بالحديد، وما شاء الله، ويصيب منها منفعة، فأتانا رافع بن خديج، فقال: إن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ينهاكم عن أمر كان لكم نافعا، وطاعة الله ، وطاعة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أنفع لكم، إن النبي ينهاكم عن الحقل، ويقول: " من استغنى عن أرضه، فليمنحها أخاه أو ليدع "، وينهاكم عن المزابنة والمزابنة: أن يكون الرجل له المال العظيم من النخل، فيأتيه الرجل، فيقول قد أخذته بكذا وكذا وسقا من تمر،
