Musnad Ahmad 281:2

Ya'qub narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Hisham ibn 'Urwah narrated to me, from his father, from 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Utbah, from Ra'itah, the wife of 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud and the mother of his child, and she was a woman skilled with her hands. He said: She used to spend on him and on his child from her craft. She said: So I said to 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud, "You and your child have kept me busy from charity, so I am not able to give anything in charity with you." 'Abd Allah said to her, "By Allah, I would not like for you to do that if there is no reward in it." So she went to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am a woman of craft; I sell from it, and I have no provision for myself, nor for my child, nor for my husband other than it. They have kept me busy from charity, so I am not able to give anything in charity. Do I have a reward for what I have spent?" She said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to her, "Spend on them, for you have in that the reward of what you spent on them."
