Musnad Ahmad 37:10

'Affan narrated to us, Wuhayb narrated to us, he said: 'Umarah ibn Ghaziyyah al-Ansari narrated to us, he said: al-Rabi' ibn Sabrah al-Juhani narrated to us, from his father, who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, in the year of the Conquest, and we stayed for fifteen days—between nights and days. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, gave us permission for *mut'ah* (temporary marriage). He said: I and a cousin of mine went out in the lower part of Makkah—or he said: in the upper part of Makkah—and we met a young woman from Banu 'Amir ibn Sa'sa'ah, who was like a tall, sturdy young she-camel. He said: I was somewhat unattractive, and I was wearing a new, fresh cloak, while my cousin was wearing a worn-out cloak. He said: We said to her, "Would one of us be allowed to contract a temporary marriage with you?" She said, "And is that permissible?" He said: We said, "Yes." He said: She began looking at my cousin, so I said to her, "This cloak of mine is new and fresh, and this cloak of my cousin is worn out." She said, "This cloak of your cousin is not bad." He said: So he contracted a temporary marriage with her, and we did not leave Makkah until the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, prohibited it.
