Hadith of Sabrah ibn Ma’bad (RA)
Hadith 37:9
'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Umar informed me, from al-Rabi' ibn Sabrah, from his father, who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) from Medina for the Farewell Pilgrimage. When we were at 'Usfan, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Indeed, the 'Umrah has entered into the Hajj." Suraqah ibn Malik, or Malik ibn Suraqah—'Abd al-'Aziz was uncertain—said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, teach us as if we are a people who were born today. Is this 'Umrah of ours for this year of ours, or is it forever?" He said: "Rather, it is forever." When we arrived in Mecca, we performed Tawaf around the House and between al-Safa and al-Marwah. Then he commanded us regarding the temporary marriage (mut'ah) of women. We returned to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, they have refused except for a specified term." He said: "Then do so." He said: So I went out, and a companion of mine, I had a cloak and he had a cloak. We entered upon a woman and offered ourselves to her. She began looking at the cloak of my companion and saw it was better than my cloak, and she looked at me and saw I was younger than him. She said: "A cloak for a cloak," and she chose me. So I married her for ten [days/nights] for my cloak. I spent that night with her. When morning came, I went to the mosque and heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) while he was on the pulpit delivering a sermon, saying: "Whoever among you has married a woman for a term, let him give her what he specified for her, and let him not take back anything of what he gave her, and let him separate from her, for Allah the Exalted has forbidden her to you until the Day of Resurrection."
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
