Hadith of Sahl ibn al-Hanzaliyyah (RA)

Hadith 526:4

Ali ibn Abdullah narrated to us, Al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to me, Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid ibn Jabir narrated to me, he said: Rabi'ah ibn Yazid narrated to me, Abu Kabshah al-Saluli narrated to me, that he heard Sahl ibn al-Hanzaliyyah al-Ansari, a companion of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, that Uyaynah and al-Aqra' asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, for something. He ordered Mu'awiyah to write it for them, and he did so. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, sealed it and ordered it to be handed to them. As for Uyaynah, he said: "What is in it?" He was told: "It contains what you were ordered." He accepted it and tied it into his turban, and he was the more forbearing of the two men. As for al-Aqra', he said: "Shall I carry a document while I do not know what is in it, like the document of al-Mutalammis?" Mu'awiyah informed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, of their words. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, went out for a need and passed by a camel kneeling at the door of the mosque at the beginning of the day, then he passed by it at the end of the day while it was in the same state. He said: "Where is the owner of this camel?" It was sought, but it was not found. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Fear Allah regarding these beasts. Ride them while they are healthy, and eat them while they are fat." Like one who is displeased just now, he said: "Indeed, whoever asks while he has what suffices him, he is only increasing for himself the embers of Hell." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, and what suffices him?" He said: "What provides him with a morning meal or an evening meal."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
