Musnad Ahmad 333:17

Hammad ibn Mas'adah narrated to us, from Yazid—meaning Ibn Abi 'Ubayd—from Salamah, that he sought permission from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to live in the desert, and he granted him permission.
