Hadith 1089:36
'Ali ibn 'Asim narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Abu al-Bakhtari, who said: Salman al-Farisi besieged one of the palaces of Persia. His companions said to him: "O Abu 'Abd Allah, will you not launch an assault against them?" He said: "No, not until I invite them as the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to invite them." He said: So he came to them and spoke to them. He said: "I am a Persian man and I am one of you, and the Arabs obey me. So choose one of three: either you accept Islam, or you pay the jizya (tribute) by hand while you are humbled and not praised, or we will cast [our treaty] aside and fight you." They said: "We will not accept Islam, and we will not pay the jizya, but we will cast [our treaty] aside and fight you." Salman returned to his companions. They said: "Will you not launch an assault against them?" He said: "No." He said: "He invited them for three days, but they did not accept. Then he fought them and conquered it."
