Musnad Ahmad 799:17

And from the Hadith of Samurah ibn Jundab (RA), from the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 799:17

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, 'Awf narrated to us, from Abu Raja' al-'Utaridi, Samurah ibn Jundab al-Fazari said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say to his companions: "Has any of you seen a vision?" He said: So whoever Allah willed would narrate it to him. He said: And he said to us one morning: "Two comers came to me last night, and they raised me up, and they said to me: 'Go,' and I went with them. And we came upon a man lying down, and another standing over him with a rock, and he was bringing the rock down upon his head, smashing his head with it. The stone would roll away here, so he would follow the stone and take it. He would not return to him until his head became as it was before. Then he would return to him and do to him the same as he did the first time." He said: I said: "Subhan Allah! What are these two?" They said to me: "Go, go." So I went with them, and we came upon a man lying on his back, and another standing over him with an iron hook. He would come to one side of his face and tear his jaw to his nape, his nostril to his nape, and his eye to his nape. Then he would move to the other side and do to him the same as he did to the first side. He would not finish with that side until the first side became as it was before. Then he would return and do to him the same as he did the first time. He said: I said: "Subhan Allah! What are these two?" They said to me: "Go, go." He said: "So we went, and we came upon something like a furnace structure." 'Awf said: And I think he said: "And in it was clamor and voices. I looked in, and behold, there were naked men and women in it, and a flame was coming to them from beneath them. When that flame reached them, they shrieked." He said: I said: "Who are these?" They said to me: "Go, go." So I went, and we came upon a river—I think he said: "red, like blood"—and in the river was a man swimming, and then that man who had gathered the stones would come, and he would open his mouth for him, and he would feed him a stone. He would go and swim as much as he swam, then he would return to him. Every time he returned to him, he would open his mouth for him and feed him a stone. He said: I said: "What is this?" They said to me: "Go, go." So we went, and we came upon a man with a repulsive appearance, the most repulsive appearance you have ever seen in a man. He was by a fire of his, stoking it and running around it. I said to them: "What is this?" They said to me: "Go, go." So I went, and we came upon a grassy garden in which there was every color of spring. And in the middle of the garden was a tall man, I could barely see his head because of his height toward the sky. And around the man were the most and best children I have ever seen. I said to them: "What is this, and who are these?" They said to me: "Go, go." So I went, and we reached a great tree, I have never seen a tree greater or better than it. They said to me: "Climb it." So we climbed it, and we reached a city built with bricks of gold and bricks of silver. We came to the gate of the city and asked for it to be opened, and it was opened for us. We entered, and we were met by men whose one half of their bodies was the most beautiful you have ever seen, and the other half was the most repulsive you have ever seen. They said to them: "Go and fall into that river." And there was a small river crossing through, flowing as if it were pure milk in whiteness. They went and fell into it, then they returned to us, and that ugliness had gone from them, and they became in the best form. They said to me: "This is the Garden of Eden, and that is your dwelling." My sight rose upward, and behold, there was a palace like a white cloud. They said to me: "That is your dwelling." I said to them: "May Allah bless you both, let me enter it." They said to me: "As for now, no, but you shall enter it." I said: "I have seen wonders since last night, so what is this that I have seen?" They said to me: "We will inform you: As for the first man you came upon whose head was being smashed with the stone, he is a man who takes the Quran and rejects it, and sleeps through the prescribed prayer. As for the man you came upon whose jaw was being torn to his nape, his eye to his nape, and his nostril to his nape, he is a man who goes out from his house and tells a lie that reaches the horizons. As for the naked men and women who were in a structure like a furnace, they are the adulterers and adulteresses. As for the man swimming in the river and being fed stones, he is the consumer of usury. As for the man with the repulsive appearance who was by the fire stoking it, he is Malik, the guardian of Hell. As for the tall man you saw in the garden, he is Abraham, peace be upon him. As for the children who were around him, every child who died upon the natural disposition (fitrah)." Some of the Muslims said: "O Messenger of Allah, and the children of the polytheists?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "And the children of the polytheists." "As for the people who were half beautiful and half repulsive, they are a people who mixed a righteous deed with another that was evil, so Allah pardoned them."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
