Musnad Ahmad 799:88

And from the Hadith of Samurah ibn Jundab (RA), from the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 799:88

Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Jarir ibn Hazim informed us, he said: I heard Abu Raja’ al-Utaridi narrating from Samurah ibn Jundub, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed the morning prayer, he would turn his face toward us and say: "Has any of you seen a vision tonight?" If anyone had seen a vision that night, he would relate it to him, and he would say regarding it what Allah willed him to say. One day he asked us and said: "Has any of you seen a vision tonight?" We said: No. He said: "But I saw two men tonight who came to me, took me by the hand, and brought me out to an open land, or a level land. They passed by a man, and a man was standing over his head with an iron hook in his hand. He would insert it into his jaw, tearing it until it reached the back of his neck, then he would pull it out and insert it into his other jaw, and the first jaw would heal. He kept doing that to him. I said: What is this? They said: Go on. So I went on with them, and there was a man lying on his back, and a man standing with a stone or a rock in his hand, with which he would crush his head. The stone would roll away, and when he went to retrieve it, his head would return as it was, and he would do the same to him again. I said: What is this? They said: Go on. So I went on with them, and there was a house built like an oven, narrow at the top and wide at the bottom, with a fire burning beneath it. Inside were naked men and women. When the fire flared up, they would rise until they were about to exit, and when it subsided, they would return into it. I said: What is this? They said to me: Go on. So I went on, and there was a river of blood with a man in it, and on the bank of the river was a man with stones in front of him. The man in the river would approach, and when he drew near to get out, he would throw a stone into his mouth, and he would return to his place. He kept doing that to him. I said: What is this? They said: Go on. So I went on, and there was a green garden, and in it was a huge tree, and at its base was an old man surrounded by children, and near him was a man with a fire in front of him, fueling and stoking it. They took me up the tree and brought me into a house, the likes of which I had never seen more beautiful. In it were old men, young men, women, and children. They brought me out of it, and took me up the tree and brought me into a house that was even more beautiful and better, in which were old men and young men. I said to them: You have taken me around all night, so inform me about what I have seen. They said: Yes. As for the first man you saw, he is a liar who tells a lie that is carried from him to the horizons, so he is treated as you saw until the Day of Resurrection, then Allah will do with him what He wills. As for the man you saw lying on his back, he is a man to whom Allah gave the Quran, but he slept through it at night and did not act upon what was in it during the day, so he is treated as you saw until the Day of Resurrection. As for those you saw in the oven, they are the adulterers. As for the one you saw in the river, that is the consumer of usury. As for the old man you saw at the base of the tree, that is Ibrahim. As for the children you saw, they are the children of the people. As for the man you saw fueling and stoking the fire, that is Malik, the guardian of the Fire, and that is the Fire. As for the first house you entered, it is the house of the common believers, and as for the other house, it is the house of the martyrs. I am Jibril, and this is Mika'il. Then they said to me: Raise your head. I raised my head, and there was something like a cloud. They said to me: That is your house. I said to them: Let me enter my house. They said: You still have deeds that you have not completed; if you had completed them, you would have entered your house."
