Hadith 458:13
'Ali ibn Ishaq narrated to us, he said: 'Abdullah—meaning Ibn al-Mubarak—informed us, he said: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Maryam informed us, from Damrah ibn Habib, from Shaddad ibn Aws, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The intelligent one is he who subjugates his soul and works for what comes after death. And the incapable one is he who follows his soul in its desires and [then] harbors wishes upon Allah."
حدثنا علي بن إسحاق، قال: أخبرنا عبد الله يعني ابن المبارك، قال: أخبرنا أبو بكر بن أبي مريم، عن ضمرة بن حبيب، عن شداد بن أوس، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " الكيس من دان نفسه، وعمل لما بعد الموت، والعاجز من أتبع نفسه هواها، وتمنى على الله "
