Hadith 458:4
Rawh narrated to us, he said: Al-Awza’i narrated to us, from Hassan ibn Atiyyah, he said: Shaddad ibn Aws was on a journey, and he stopped at a place. He said to his servant: "Bring us the dining cloth so we may amuse ourselves with it." I disapproved of him for that, so he said: "I have not spoken a word since I accepted Islam except that I have bridled it and reined it in, except for this word of mine, so do not hold it against me. And hold from me what I say to you: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: 'When people hoard gold and silver, you hoard these words: O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in the matter, and determination in guidance, and I ask You for gratitude for Your favor, and I ask You for the excellence of Your worship, and I ask You for a sound heart, and I ask You for a truthful tongue, and I ask You for the best of what You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for what You know, for indeed You are the Knower of the unseen.'"
حدثنا روح، قال: حدثنا الأوزاعي، عن حسان بن عطية، قال: كان شداد بن أوس، في سفر، فنزل منزلا، فقال لغلامه: ائتنا بالسفرة نعبث بها، فأنكرت عليه، فقال: ما تكلمت بكلمة منذ أسلمت إلا وأنا أخطمها وأزمها غير كلمتي هذه، فلا تحفظوها علي، واحفظوا مني ما أقول لكم: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: " إذا كنز الناس الذهب والفضة، فاكنزوا هؤلاء الكلمات: اللهم إني أسألك الثبات في الأمر، والعزيمة على الرشد، وأسألك شكر نعمتك، وأسألك حسن عبادتك، وأسألك قلبا سليما، وأسألك لسانا صادقا، وأسألك من خير ما تعلم، وأعوذ بك من شر ما تعلم، وأستغفرك لما تعلم، إنك أنت علام الغيوب "
