Musnad Ahmad 1023:4

Abu Amir narrated to us, Ali narrated to us, Yahya ibn Abi Kathir narrated to us, Hayya al-Tamimi narrated to us, that his father informed him that he heard the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, saying: "There is nothing in the *hamah* (the belief that the owl or a bird brings bad luck), and the evil eye is true, and the truest of omens is *al-fa'l* (optimism)."
