Musnad Ahmad 936:3

Ya'qub narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr ibn Muhammad ibn 'Amr ibn Hazm narrated to me, from Yahya ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Sa'd ibn Zurarah, from 'Amarah ibn 'Amr ibn Hazm, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent me as a collector of Zakat (Sadaqah) over the tribes of Bali, 'Udhrah, and all of Banu Sa'd ibn Hudhaym ibn Quda'ah. Ya'qub said in another place: "from Quda'ah." He said: So I collected their Zakat until I passed by the last man among them, and his dwelling and land were among the closest of their dwellings to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in Medina. He said: When he gathered his wealth for me, I found that the only thing due upon him from it was an *ibnat makhad* (a one-year-old female camel). I informed him that it was his Zakat. He said: He replied, "That is something that has no milk and no back (i.e., cannot be ridden). By Allah, neither the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) nor any messenger of his has ever stood over my wealth before you. And I would not offer to Allah from my wealth that which has no milk and no back. Rather, here is a young, fat she-camel, so take it." I said to him: "I will not take what I have not been commanded to take. This is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) near to you; if you wish to come to him and offer him what you offered me, then do so. If he accepts it from you, he accepts it, and if he rejects it, he rejects it." He said: "I will do so." He said: So he went out with me, and he went out with the she-camel that he had offered me, until we arrived at the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He said: He said to him, "O Prophet of Allah, your messenger came to me to take the Zakat of my wealth. By Allah, neither the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) nor any messenger of his has ever stood over my wealth before you. I gathered my wealth for him, and he claimed that there was an *ibnat makhad* due upon me from it, and that is something that has no milk and no back. I offered him a young, fat she-camel to take, but he refused me. Here it is; I have brought it to you, O Messenger of Allah, so take it." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him, "That is what is due upon you. If you volunteer something better, we will accept it from you, and Allah will reward you for it." He said: "Here it is, O Messenger of Allah, I have brought it to you, so take it." He said: So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered that it be accepted, and he prayed for blessing for him in his wealth.
