Hadith 1116:8
'Affan narrated to us, Hammad bin Salamah narrated to us, Thabit informed us, from 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla, from Suhayb, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "There was a king among those who were before you, and he had a sorcerer. When the sorcerer grew old, he said to the king: 'I have reached an advanced age and my time has drawn near, so send me a boy whom I may teach sorcery.' He sent him a boy, and he began teaching him sorcery. Between the sorcerer and the king, there was a monk. The boy came to the monk and heard his speech, and he was impressed by his way and his speech. So, whenever he came to the sorcerer, he would beat him and say: 'What kept you?' And whenever he came to his family, they would beat him and say: 'What kept you?' He complained of that to the monk, who said: 'When the sorcerer wants to beat you, say: "My family kept me," and when your family wants to beat you, say: "The sorcerer kept me."' While he was in that state, he came one day upon a terrible, huge beast that had blocked the people's path, and they could not pass. He said: 'Today I will know whether the matter of the monk is more beloved to Allah or the matter of the sorcerer.' He took a stone and said: 'O Allah, if the matter of the monk is more beloved to You and more pleasing to You than the matter of the sorcerer, then kill this beast so that the people may pass.' He threw it, killed it, and the people passed. He informed the monk of that, and he said: 'O my son, you are better than me, and you will be tested. If you are tested, do not disclose me.' The boy used to heal the blind and the lepers and cure all other diseases. A courtier of the king went blind, and when he heard of him, he came to him with many gifts and said: 'Heal me, and all that is here is yours.' He said: 'I do not heal anyone; only Allah heals. If you believe in Him, I will call upon Allah and He will heal you.' He believed, so he called upon Allah for him, and He healed him. Then he came to the king and sat with him as he used to sit. The king said to him: 'O so-and-so, who restored your sight?' He said: 'My Lord.' He said: 'Me?' He said: 'No, but my Lord and your Lord is Allah.' He said: 'Do you have a Lord other than me?' He said: 'Yes.' He continued to torture him until he led him to the boy. He sent for him and said: 'O my son, has your sorcery reached the point where you heal the blind, the leper, and these diseases?' He said: 'I do not heal anyone; no one heals except Allah.' He said: 'Me?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Do you have a Lord other than me?' He said: 'Yes, my Lord and your Lord is Allah.' He took him to torture as well, and he did not cease until he led him to the monk. The monk was brought, and it was said: 'Recant your religion.' He refused. He placed the saw at the parting of his head until his two halves fell. Then he said to the blind man: 'Recant your religion.' He refused. He placed the saw at the parting of his head until his two halves fell to the ground. Then he said to the boy: 'Recant your religion.' He refused. He sent him with a group of men to such-and-such a mountain and said: 'When you reach its peak, if he recants his religion, then leave him; otherwise, throw him down from the top.' They took him, and when they climbed the mountain with him, he said: 'O Allah, suffice me against them however You will.' The mountain shook with them, and they all fell down. The boy came walking until he entered upon the king. The king said: 'What did your companions do?' He said: 'Allah sufficed me against them.' He sent him with a group of men in a boat and said: 'When you reach the middle of the sea, if he recants his religion, then leave him; otherwise, drown him.' They reached the middle of the sea, and the boy said: 'O Allah, suffice me against them however You will.' They all drowned. The boy came walking until he entered upon the king. The king said: 'What did your companions do?' He said: 'Allah sufficed me against them.' Then he said to the king: 'You will not be able to kill me until you do what I command you. If you do what I command you, you will kill me; otherwise, you will not be able to kill me.' He said: 'And what is that?' He said: 'Gather the people in one place, then crucify me on a trunk, take an arrow from my quiver, then say: "In the name of Allah, the Lord of the boy." If you do that, you will kill me.' He did so, placed the arrow in the center of his bow, then shot and said: 'In the name of Allah, the Lord of the boy.' The arrow struck his temple, and the boy placed his hand on the spot of the arrow and died. The people said: 'We believe in the Lord of the boy.' It was said to the king: 'Do you see what you were afraid of? By Allah, it has befallen you; all the people have believed.' He ordered the mouths of the streets, so trenches were dug in them and fires were kindled in them. He said: 'Whoever recants his religion, let him go; otherwise, throw him into it.' They were rushing into it and pushing one another. A woman came with a son of hers whom she was nursing, and she seemed to hesitate to fall into the fire. The infant said: 'O mother, be patient, for you are upon the truth.'"
حدثنا عفان، حدثنا حماد بن سلمة، أخبرنا ثابت، عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى، عن صهيب، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: " كان ملك فيمن كان قبلكم، وكان له ساحر فلما كبر الساحر قال للملك: إني قد كبرت سني، وحضر أجلي فادفع إلي غلاما فلأعلمه السحر، فدفع إليه غلاما، فكان يعلمه السحر، وكان بين الساحر وبين الملك راهب، فأتى الغلام على الراهب، فسمع من كلامه فأعجبه نحوه وكلامه، فكان إذا أتى الساحر ضربه وقال: ما حبسك؟ وإذا أتى أهله ضربوه وقالوا: ما حبسك؟ فشكا ذلك إلى الراهب فقال: إذا أراد الساحر أن يضربك فقل: حبسني أهلي، وإذا أراد أهلك أن يضربوك فقل: حبسني الساحر، قال: فبينما هو كذلك إذ أتى ذات يوم على دابة فظيعة عظيمة، وقد حبست الناس، فلا يستطيعون أن يجوزوا، فقال: اليوم أعلم أمر الراهب أحب إلى الله أم أمر الساحر؟ فأخذ حجرا فقال : اللهم إن كان أمر الراهب أحب إليك وأرضى لك من أمر الساحر، فاقتل هذه الدابة حتى يجوز الناس، ورماها فقتلها، ومضى الناس، فأخبر الراهب بذلك، فقال: أي بني، أنت أفضل مني، وإنك ستبتلى، فإن ابتليت، فلا تدل علي، فكان الغلام يبرئ الأكمه وسائر الأدواء ويشفيهم، وكان جليس للملك فعمي، فسمع به، فأتاه بهدايا كثيرة فقال: اشفني ولك ما هاهنا أجمع، فقال: ما أشفي أنا أحدا، إنما يشفي الله، فإن أنت آمنت به، دعوت الله فشفاك، فآمن فدعا الله له فشفاه، ثم أتى الملك، فجلس منه نحو ما كان يجلس، فقال له الملك: يا فلان، من رد عليك بصرك؟ فقال: ربي، قال: أنا؟ قال: لا، ولكن ربي وربك الله، قال: أولك رب غيري؟ قال: نعم. فلم يزل يعذبه حتى دله على الغلام، فبعث إليه فقال: أي بني قد بلغ من سحرك أن تبرئ الأكمه والأبرص وهذه الأدواء؟ قال: ما أشفي أنا أحدا، ما يشفي غير الله، قال: أنا؟ قال: لا. قال: أولك رب غيري؟ قال: نعم، ربي وربك الله، فأخذه أيضا بالعذاب، فلم يزل به حتى دل على الراهب، فأتي بالراهب، فقال: ارجع عن دينك، فأبى، فوضع المنشار في مفرق رأسه حتى وقع شقاه، وقال للأعمى: ارجع عن دينك فأبى فوضع المنشار في مفرق رأسه حتى وقع شقاه في الأرض، وقال للغلام: ارجع عن دينك، فأبى، فبعث به مع نفر إلى جبل كذا وكذا، فقال: إذا بلغتم ذروته فإن رجع عن دينه، وإلا فدهدهوه من فوقه، فذهبوا به، فلما علوا به الجبل قال: اللهم اكفنيهم بما شئت، فرجف بهم الجبل فتدهدهوا أجمعون، وجاء الغلام يتلمس حتى دخل على الملك، فقال: ما فعل أصحابك؟ فقال: كفانيهم الله، فبعث به مع نفر في قرقور، فقال: إذا لججتم به البحر، فإن رجع عن دينه، وإلا فغرقوه فلججوا به البحر، فقال الغلام: اللهم اكفنيهم بما شئت، فغرقوا أجمعون، وجاء الغلام يتلمس حتى دخل على الملك، فقال: ما فعل أصحابك؟ قال: كفانيهم الله، ثم قال للملك : إنك لست بقاتلي حتى تفعل ما آمرك به، فإن أنت فعلت ما آمرك به قتلتني، وإلا فإنك لا تستطيع قتلي، قال: وما هو؟ قال: تجمع الناس في صعيد، ثم تصلبني على جذع فتأخذ سهما من كنانتي، ثم قل: بسم الله رب الغلام، فإنك إذا فعلت ذلك قتلتني، ففعل ووضع السهم في كبد قوسه ثم رمى فقال: بسم الله رب الغلام، فوضع السهم في صدغه فوضع الغلام يده على موضع السهم ومات فقال الناس: آمنا برب الغلام، فقيل للملك: أرأيت ما كنت تحذر؟ فقد والله نزل بك، قد آمن الناس كلهم، فأمر بأفواه السكك فخددت فيها الأخدود وأضرمت فيها النيران، وقال: من رجع عن دينه فدعوه، وإلا فأقحموه فيها، قال: فكانوا يتعادون فيها ويتدافعون، فجاءت امرأة بابن لها ترضعه، فكأنها تقاعست أن تقع في النار، فقال الصبي: يا أمه، اصبري، فإنك على الحق "
