Hadith 148:3
Ibn Numayr narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Salamah, from Mu’awiyah ibn Suwayd, who said: I slapped a freed slave of ours, then I came while my father was at the Dhuhr prayer, and I prayed with him. When he finished the prayer, he took my hand and said: "Retaliate against him." Then he forgave [him]. Then he began to narrate, saying: We, the children of Muqarrin, were seven during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and we had no servant except one. One of us slapped her, and that reached the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so he said: "Free her." They said: "We have no servant other than her." He said: "Then let them employ her, and when they are in no need of her, let them set her free."
حدثنا ابن نمير، حدثنا سفيان، عن سلمة، عن معاوية بن سويد، قال: لطمت مولى لنا، ثم جئت وأبي في الظهر، فصليت معه، فلما سلم أخذ بيدي، فقال: امتثل منه فعفا، ثم أنشأ يحدث، قال: كنا ولد مقرن على عهد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم سبعة، ليس لنا إلا خادم واحدة، فلطمها أحدنا، فبلغ النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال: " أعتقوها " فقالوا: ليس لنا خادم غيرها، قال: " فليستخدموها فإذا استغنوا فليخلوا سبيلها "
