Hadith of Thabit ibn Yazid ibn Wada‘ah (RA)
Hadith 576:4
Husayn narrated to us, Yazid ibn ‘Ata’ narrated to us, from Husayn, from Zayd ibn Wahb al-Juhani, from Thabit ibn Yazid ibn Wada’ah al-Ansari, who said: We hunted dhabb (lizards) while we were with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, on one of his military expeditions. He said: The people cooked them and roasted them. He said: So I took a dhabb and roasted it, then I brought it to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he placed it before him. He took a stick and began to turn its toes with it, or count them. Then he said: "A nation from the Children of Israel was transformed into beasts upon the earth, and I do not know which of the beasts they are." He said: I said: The people have already roasted them. He said: So he did not eat from it, and he did not forbid them from it.
