Hadith 981:31
'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Isra'il, from Mansur, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from Thawban, who said: When the verse, "Those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend them in the way of Allah" [al-Tawbah: 34] was revealed, we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on one of his journeys. Some of his companions said: "What has been revealed regarding gold and silver has been revealed. If only we knew which wealth is best, so that we might acquire it." He said: "The best of it is a remembering tongue, a grateful heart, and a believing wife who assists him in his faith."
حدثنا عبد الرحمن، عن إسرائيل، عن منصور، عن سالم بن أبي الجعد ، عن ثوبان قال: لما أنزلت {الذين يكنزون الذهب والفضة، ولا ينفقونها في سبيل الله} [التوبة: 34] قال: كنا مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في بعض أسفاره. فقال: بعض أصحابه قد نزل في الذهب والفضة ما نزل، فلو أنا علمنا أي المال خير اتخذناه فقال: " أفضله لسانا ذاكرا، وقلبا شاكرا، وزوجة مؤمنة تعينه على إيمانه "
